Vice Provost for Research

Jeffrey Zaleski

Jeff Zaleski serves as Vice Provost for Research at IU Bloomington and as an IU Associate Vice President for Research. He is also Provost Professor in the College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Chemistry at IU Bloomington.

As Vice Provost, Zaleski oversees the development of research and creative activities across the Bloomington campus. This includes oversight of 22 research centers, institutes, and museums, including unique centers such as the Kinsey Institute and the Ostrom Workshop. Zaleski has been highly instrumental in bolstering scientific research funding, projects, and infrastructure. He also plays a crucial role in facilitating the campus’s research engagement with NSWC Crane, the Department of Defense, and other national security resources.

Vice Provost Zaleski

Zaleski received his B.S. degree from SUNY at Geneseo in 1988 and his Ph.D. from Michigan State University in 1993. He was awarded the Jane Coffin Childs Postdoctoral Fellowship at Stanford University where he studied physical-bioinorganic chemistry under the direction of Professor Edward I. Solomon. Zaleski joined the faculty at Indiana University in 1996. His research interests are in the fields of metals in medicine, bioinorganic chemistry, synthetic chemistry, and materials.

Brea Perry

Associate Vice Provost for Social Sciences

Perry is professor of sociology in the College of Arts and Sciences at IU Bloomington and an affiliated faculty member of the Indiana University Network Science Institute. As associate vice provost, she advances the social sciences across the campus through consultations, workshops, internal funding programs and close collaboration with centers such as the Social Science Research Commons.

Kosali Simon

Associate Vice Provost for Health Sciences

Simon is Herman B Wells Endowed Professor in the O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs. In conjunction with the Vice Provost for Graduate Education and Health Sciences in the University Graduate School, Simon fosters health sciences and health services research at IU Bloomington, leveraging campus strengths in the social sciences and big data research and working closely with the IU Academic Health Center.

Ed Dallis-Comentale

Associate Vice Provost for Arts and Humanities

Dallis-Comentale is professor of English and director of the IU Bloomington Arts and Humanities Council, which leads expansion of arts and humanities activities and programs that link artists, scholars, students and the public. As associate vice provost, he supports the campus’s artists and humanists through consultations, internal funding programs, and close collaborations with centers such as the Center for Rural Engagement.

Sherry Knighton-Schwandt

Assistant Vice Provost for Research

Knighton-Schwandt facilitates support for research and creative productivity across all disciplines at IU Bloomington, including overseeing proposal development services, internal funding opportunities, and limited submissions funding opportunities.

Patty Muller

Director, Proposal Development Services

Muller directs proposal development services for faculty on the IU Bloomington campus, which provides guidance and assistance for planning, writing, and developing proposals for external funding.
