As Executive Vice Provost for Finance, Budget, and Strategy for the Indiana University Bloomington campus, M.A. “Venkat” Venkataramanan oversees a $1.7 billion campus budget. This includes management of the budget process for all academic units and overseeing fiscal operations and program management for campus auxiliaries. He is also responsible for campus strategic initiatives including globalization, multidisciplinary programs, and optimizing campus funding models and processes, among many others.
Venkat graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the College of Engineering at Madras University in India. He received his Ph.D. in Business Analysis and Research from Texas A&M University in 1987 and joined the faculty of the Kelley School of Business that year. He served as the chair of the Operations and Decision Technologies department from 1997 to 2003, the Lawrence D. Glaubinger Chair of Business Administration and chairperson of the Kelley School of Business undergraduate program from 2005 to 2009 and Associate Dean-Academic Programs from 2009 to 2012. In October 2012, he was appointed Vice Provost for Strategic Initiatives for Indiana University Bloomington.
Venkat is the Jack R. Wentworth Professor at IU’s Kelley School of Business. His research and teaching interests are in the areas of decision support systems and optimization techniques.
