Dear IU Community,
IU Bloomington is deeply saddened and concerned by the recent violence targeting women of Asian descent in Atlanta. We stand with our Asian American, Pacific Islander, and international students, faculty, and staff, and condemn the rising level of xenophobia, racism, and misogyny affecting these communities. If you witness or experience any form of bias, or would like support, IU Bloomington offers the following resources:
- Reporting a bias incident will get a near-immediate response from Cedric Harris, who is the Director of Bias Response in our Division of Student Affairs. Mr. Harris can access all campus and police resources as appropriate for the situation.
- Submitting a care referral for a student in distress will also get an immediate response from the Division of Student Affairs.
- Counseling and Psychological Services is a resource for students who need counseling. Under Denise Hayes, CAPS has expanded its resources to include specific help for multicultural students. Counselors are themselves diverse, and speak, among other languages, Spanish and Mandarin.
- Great Lakes Asian American Student Services offers an anti-Asian racism bystander workshop, and you are invited to register here.
- As always, our cultural centers are safe resources for you. The Asian Culture Center in particular is taking an active role right now in response to the killings in Atlanta.
Anti-Asian racism, and racism in any form, has no place on this campus or in this university.
Most sincerely,
Lauren Robel
