In response to student feedback, IU Bloomington’s Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) has launched a new service offering students a 30-minute psychological assessment within 48 hours of contact. CAPS Now, which launched in the spring semester of 2015, replaces the previous walk-in service and the former procedure of calling to schedule a first intake appointment.
“We though it made sense to have an immediate assessment, available even when the student is not in crisis,” said Nancy Stockton, director of CAPS.
During the initial CAPS Now appointment, counselors determine the best CAPS services for each student, identify clear goals and develop a treatment plan.
“CAPS Now really addresses the issue of having so many students who want and need to be seen,” said IU senior Emma Sullivan, a human development and family studies major and member of Crimson CORPS, a peer support group that promotes well-being and mental health. “It is an awesome new resource.”
