Abby Zielinski, a freshman at IU Bloomington, is pursuing a degree in biology and neuroscience through the College of Arts and Sciences. Each month this year, she has been testing the ecological health of the Jordan River, which runs through the heart of IU Bloomington's campus.
Zielinski's research is part of her work with the 2020 Sustainability Scholars program, administered through IU's Office of Sustainability in collaboration with the Integrated Program in the Environment and the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education. The program, which is modeled after a successful pilot in IU’s Center of Excellence for Women in Technology, aims to provide high-quality research experiences for 15 freshmen and sophomores in the area of sustainability.
Zielinski is mentored by Thomas Simon, adjunct professor in the School of Public and Environmental Affairs.
