Colleagues,
The workplace has evolved tremendously over the past few years, and the ways in which we support employees must also evolve. You have shown great flexibility and resiliency as we all adapt to a shifting higher education landscape, work together in new ways, and rise to meet new opportunities in an ever-changing world.
As leaders for the Bloomington campus and IU Human Resources, we write to announce a multiyear initiative to strengthen the staff experience at IU Bloomington.
To effectively recruit, retain, and engage a talented and diverse staff at IUB, reflective of our desire to continue to be an outstanding place to work, learn, and grow, we must:
- Increase the sense of belonging and well-being among staff, including strengthening resources dedicated to overall health and access to medical care.
- Ensure more equitable compensation, workloads, and working environments across campus.
- Provide staff with robust professional growth and development opportunities, including clarified career pathways.
- Leverage data about the staff experience to empower supervisors to be increasingly responsive to employee ideas and opportunities.
In service of these overarching goals, we have detailed a set of specific initiatives to guide our focus. In the coming months, we will meet with groups of staff across campus, including in partnership with the IUB Staff Council, to share more about these initiatives and learn more about opportunities in specific areas.
We see firsthand the incredible impact of our employees across the campus in helping IUB meet our shared mission and advance our strategic priorities in the areas of student success and opportunity, transformational research and creativity, and service to our state and beyond.
We are grateful for your service and for all that you bring to your individual work, your team, and the larger IUB community. May your fulfillment and opportunity in your work at IU only continue to grow.
With appreciation,
Rahul Shrivastav, Executive Vice President and Provost, IU Bloomington
Todd Richardson, IU Vice President for Human Resources
