Carrie Docherty
Carrie Docherty is the Interim Vice Provost for Strategy and Innovation. Through this newly created position (2022), she is responsible for oversight and management of critical strategic planning and implementation of priority initiatives. In collaboration with the faculty, chairs, deans, fellow campus leaders, and the provost, she works to advance the campus mission and implement priority strategic goals for IU Bloomington.
Docherty earned her Bachelor of Science degree from IU and her M.Ed. and Ph.D. from the University of Virginia. She has been a member of the School of Public Health faculty in the Department of Kinesiology since 2003, serving as an administrator, an educator, and a scholar. She is an internationally recognized scholar in her field and has more than 25 years of clinical experience. Docherty has spent her career focusing on the intersection between athletic training, kinesiology, and public health. Her research focuses on rehabilitation sciences— specifically, how chronic ankle instability impacts physical activity and health- related quality of life.
She has been awarded the distinction of Fellow of the National Academy of Kinesiology, Fellow of the National Athletic Trainers Association, and Outstanding Educator Award from the Great Lakes Athletic Trainers' Association. Throughout her career, Docherty has mentored hundreds of graduate students, and she continues to mentor future scholars and leaders in the field.
