Awards conferred by the Office of the Provost
Provost’s Medal
The Provost’s Medal is the highest honor bestowed by the Office of the Provost. It recognizes select individuals for their outstanding contributions to the academic mission of Indiana University Bloomington. Recipients of this medal are faculty and administrators whose careers have transformed vital aspects of the Bloomington campus, greatly enhanced the student experience, and significantly advanced the frontiers of research in their fields. Honorees are chosen by the Provost.
Provost’s Medal Recipients
Originally called the Chancellor’s Medallion, the award was first given in 1997 to James P. Holland, an exemplary teacher and scholar in the Department of Biology. Renamed the Provost's Medal in 2006, it recognizes outstanding service that builds and enhances the impact of Indiana University. Past medal recipients are listed below.

Staff Merit Awards
The Staff Merit Awards honor staff members for outstanding service to Indiana University Bloomington. Awards are presented annually in three categories: Service Staff, Support Staff, and Professional Staff. Recipients are nominated by people from all across campus, and winners are chosen by a committee of staff and faculty members. Staff Merit Awards have recognized individuals for outstanding service to Indiana University Bloomington since 1979.
You may now submit nominations for the 2025 Staff Merit Awards through October 18, 2024. The Staff Awards ceremony will be held in February 2025.

Provost’s Award for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity
The Provost’s Award for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity honors exceptional undergraduate students for research and creative projects that exemplify Indiana University Bloomington’s academic mission and represent the very best work in their respective fields. Awards are presented each spring in five categories: Performing and Creative Arts, Social and Applied Sciences, Natural and Mathematical Sciences, Professional Inquiry, and Humanities. Recipients are nominated by faculty and chosen by a committee of faculty members. This award is administered by the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education.
