What’s ahead
This fall, the Office of Undergraduate Education is developing workshops to support faculty and staff creating co-curricular opportunities and seeking the Experiential Learning Activity (ELA) designation. In January, the School of Public Health-Bloomington will pilot the framework within curricular design. The College of Arts and Sciences is already leading in scaling undergraduate research and coding courses accordingly, while a campus-wide group is improving how we track and reflect on community-engaged learning.
Looking ahead, we are continuing to explore making experiential learning a formal part of every IU Bloomington student’s journey—ensuring every graduate gains the skills, confidence, and perspective that come from applying learning in meaningful contexts.
Our goal is clear: to make experiential learning universal, visible, and transformative. From the first year to graduation, every student should have the opportunity to connect what they learn to who they want to become, and every faculty member should have the support to make that connection possible.
In the months ahead, we’ll see these efforts come to life across classrooms, labs, and communities, demonstrating what’s possible when innovation and experience intersect.
