Rahul Shrivastav

A noted innovator, scholar, and higher education leader, Rahul Shrivastav has served as Provost of Indiana University Bloomington since 2022. Under his leadership, IU Bloomington has launched IUB 2030, increased services and support for students and faculty, and championed initiatives to propel IUB's pedagogy and classrooms into the future.

Nicole Griffin

Director, Visitor Information Center

Nicole manages the visitor information center and staff. She coordinates campus tours, serves as a community liaison, and provides a welcoming environment for prospective students and visitors.

Provost’s Office Awards 

Provost’s Medal 

The Provost’s Medal is the highest honor awarded by the Office of the Provost. It recognizes faculty and administrators whose outstanding contributions have profoundly advanced the academic mission of Indiana University Bloomington. Recipients are individuals whose careers have transformed key aspects of the campus, significantly enhanced the student experience, and pushed the boundaries of research in their fields. Honorees are selected by the Provost. 

Originally named the Chancellor’s Medallion, the award was first presented in 1997 to James P. Holland, a distinguished teacher and scholar in the Department of Biology. Renamed the Provost’s Medal in 2006, it celebrates exceptional service that strengthens and elevates Indiana University’s impact. Past recipients are listed below.

Provost’s Award for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity 

The Provost’s Award for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity recognizes exceptional undergraduate students whose research or creative projects embody IU Bloomington’s academic mission and represent the highest level of achievement in their fields. Awards are presented each spring in five categories: Performing and Creative Arts, Social and Applied Sciences, Natural and Mathematical Sciences, Professional Inquiry, and Humanities. Recipients are nominated by faculty and chosen by a committee of faculty members. This award is administered by the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education. History of the Provost

John Applegate

2021-2022

John S. Applegate was a distinguished environmental law scholar and the James L. Calamaras Professor of Law at the IU Maurer School of Law. He served for more than a decade as IU’s Executive Vice President for University Academic Affairs before being appointed Interim Provost of IU Bloomington. 

Lauren Robel

2012-2021

Lauren Robel is the Val A. Nolan Professor of Law and former dean of the IU Maurer School of Law. As Provost of IU Bloomington, she oversaw the creation of the Media School, the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies, and the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture + Design. 

Karen Hanson

2007-2012

Karen Hanson was the Rudy Professor Emerita of Philosophy and Dean Emerita of the Hutton Honors College, and former chair of the Department of Philosophy. 

Michael McRobbie

2006-2007

Michael McRobbie was Indiana University’s first provost and President Emeritus of Indiana University. He previously held roles as Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer and Vice President for Research.
